President's Message History Services Ways to Help MacDonell
Wish List

THE MISSION

To provide clinical, educational and spiritual care for children, youth and adults who need the healing ministries offered by our agency.

THE PURPOSE

To provide and maintain a benevolent, charitable, non-profit organization for the care, custody, heritage, education and welfare of children, youth and families without regard to sex, race, color, creed, national origin or handicapping condition that can be addressed within the scope of the program, services and financial resources of the agency.

Building a Legacy

Home button  Presently our girls, ages five to 15, reside on the top floor of a wood frame building which was constructed in 1932.  These girls are clearly in need of a strong, modern single story structure which will provide a functional and hospitable home, more suitable for the children we care for today.

The time has come to begin the construction of a state-of-the-art building which will be named Chrisentery Hall.  To meet this important need, we are now raising funds for the construction of a new girls building.  This will be a single story structure, named in honor of Mrs. Inez Chrisentery.

Chrisentery Hall will be a spacious 7,400 sq. ft. facility, designed to be highly energy efficient and low maintenance, built to meet the most rigid of fire codes and will be handicap accessible.

Most importantly, it will be safe and inviting home for 12 young girls.

You can help make our vision a reality for the children of MacDonell with a generous tax deductible donation.  Learn more...

MacKids Head Back to School

Thanks to the very generous support of our community and friends, the boys and girls at MacDonell stayed enjoyably busy this summer.  Many of our children experienced swimming lessons, arts and crafts, and educational field trips for the first time.

Now the focus shifts to back to school.  Prior to coming to MacDonell Children’s Services, this was a time many of our kids dreaded.  Some had to go to school unprepared, poorly dressed, and upset from the instability and chaos in their lives.  After school, they returned to a home life that may not include the support they needed, emotionally or academically.

We are especially appreciative to have friends like you, who help to ensure that our children have an entirely different educational experience.  Each afternoon, they return to MacDonell where caring staff and teachers work with them in Study Hall, providing the extra support they need in a stable, nurturing and Christian environment.

Please help us to continue to provide for the needs of the 36 boys and girls in our care by sending your gift to:

New Playground Equipment Nearing Completion

In December of 2003, the Law Office of Barron Whipple held its annual Toy Drive to benefit the children of MacDonell.  That year it was done a little differently.  Instead of toys, donors were asked to give money to build a new playground pavilion.  Thanks to the generous donations we received, a storm resistant structure with heavy duty swings, seven-foot turbo slides, a jungle gym, and rock climbing area, is now underway.

“Most playground kits are meant to last one childhood,” says Richard Larkin, our Maintenance Supervisor.  “We are building this for several generations, not just one.”  For this reason, heavy timber, treated lumber, and quality hardware, including special coated screws, are just some of the materials being used for the project.  We were able to raise $1,134 of the estimated $1,700 cost.  Completion of the playground equipment is expected within the next two months.  Larkin figures it may go a little over budget but that should “make it last four times as long.”   His assistant added, “I think it will serve our kids well for a long, long time.”

The children pass the construction site every day and are anticipating it’s completion.  With each new piece installed, the children and staff get more excited.  It is because of the generous donations of our community that this endeavor was made possible.  Thanks to all of you the children of MacDonell today and in the future will have a great place to play and this will make their stay at MacDonell more enjoyable.
