How many children reside at MacDonell?  Thirty-six (36) - 24 boys and 12 girls.

What are the ages of the children in your care?  School aged, five to 18 years of age.

What is the average length of stay for the children at MacDonell?  Six months to two years.

Can I become a foster parent for these children?  Yes.  Please contact your local Office of Community Services which may or may not be listed in the white pages of your phone directory under "Louisiana, State of - Social Services".

Where do your kids go to school?  Local public schools.

Is the MacDonell Home an orphanage?  No.

Are you affiliated with the Ronald McDonald House?  No.

Can I volunteer to work with the children?  Due to confidentiality issues, volunteers are not allowed to work directly with our children.  However, MacDonell Children's Services will gladly welcome volunteer help with our mailouts and other office duties.

Can I earn community service hours at MacDonell?  Yes.  You can help here in our office, or work with your organization on a project that will benefit our children (canned food drives, donation of school supplies, Easter baskets, Christmas stockings, etc.).

How does my support help the MacDonell kids?  Perhaps the accounts on this page will help to answer this question.

I have something I would like to donate.  How do I get it to you?  Our campus is located at 8326 Main Street in Houma, accessible by way of Grand Caillou Road, Buron and Mahler streets.  You can call our office to arrange to have your items picked up, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What type of items can I donate?  Please refer to our Wish List.
