History
HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
MacDonell was founded as a French Mission in 1919 by Miss Ella K. Hooper and Mrs. Laura White, deaconesses of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. The mission was primarily a school for girls as Miss Hooper realized the need for their education in the Houma area, which was then a rural fishing village.
Circa 1952, MacDonell became a home serving children, who for various reasons, need to live away from their homes. Since that time, it has evolved into a therapeutic residential facility for school aged children.
